Rain Dance Why Can't I Reach You

Do Over, The Second Expulsion

Rain Dance III

Do Over, Recreation

This is what I believe: Good art requires an understanding of the elements of design and adhering to the principles of design. However, good art doesn’t have to be unique or creative. Great art does. Great art must also say something about art, about life or both. This is what separates great art from a pretty picture on the wall. This is my challenge: Creating great art is almost impossible. But, it should be every serious artist’s goal. As my former employer once said: “If you reach for the stars you will never get one, but you won’t come up with a handful of mud.” For me, there is a fear that is almost paralyzing when I start a new piece. I want every painting to be better than the last which is impossible. This is what I want from my art: I want it to add beauty to the world while it speaks to the meaning of our lives. I want to feel a spiritual connection as I paint and hopefully the viewer will feel that connection as well. My paintings should express the loves, joys, sorrows, fears, that make us human, a reflection of our world. This is what I do: My work is mixed media, abstract and expressionist. I use both oil and water based paints and stains. Since water and oil don’t mix I am able to create interesting textures and effects. Texture is extremely important to me. Viewers often ask, “Can I touch it?”
