Winter 2007 Arts Festival Sponsors

Please join us February 9th, 10th, and 11th, 2007 as thousands of art collectors, dealers, and visitors will converge on the Bucktown and Wicker Park neighborhoods of Chicago in one of the city's most interesting celebrations of the arts. Each year, hundreds of painters, photographers, sculptors, actors, performance artists, poets, and filmmakers participate in this unique opportunity to exhibit and sell their work to visitors from the United States and abroad. Our festival brings together neighborhood galleries, schools and non-profit arts organizations under one umbrella with private art studios and local businesses which, for the weekend, transform themselves into public galleries. In addition to the visual art exhibitions, neighborhood theaters and bars host performances both impromptu and scheduled throughout the weekend.

There are also four Project Spaces on each floor of the building dedicated to the exhibition of installation art and sculpture. Be sure to catch projects by Jessica Vaughn (2nd floor, Project Space D) and Philip Hartigan (Project Space D on the 3rd floor). Also highlighted are some of Wicker Park’s newest galleries (2nd floor spaces 37-40) – all members of the newly formed Wicker Park Bucktown Gallery Association which works to promote the galleries in the neighborhood through Second Saturday Gallery Walks each month.

Throughout the Wicker Park neighborhood we have Special Curated Visual Art Projects featuring festival artists. Check out the Improvised Identity exhibition at Dulcenea (1431 N. Milwaukee), an installation of three of our favorite festival artists at Piece (1927 W. North Ave), and an exhibit of some of the more scandalous festival art at Batteries Not Included (1439 N. Closing Party
Sunday, February 11 from 10pm to 2am
Dulcenea
1431 N. Milwaukee
free with festival pass or artist pass. ($10 at the door)
The Machine Media will be spinning a roster of Chicago's best bands as we come together one last time to end the 2007 Winter Arts Festival. The closing party features Improvised Identity, a visual art exhibition curated by Around the Coyote curatorial interns Amy Gadola and Tracey Drobot. This exhibition delves into the special applications of identity in art. Artists must negotiate the complexities of stereotypes, self-awareness, portraiture, and what it means to be an artist. The success of an artwork is, for better or for worse, often contingent on the reception of the artist's desired or illusioned identity. The artists included in Improvised Identity explore notions of identity in very disparate ways and through the use of various media. Featured artists include Travis Pickard, Tim Lane, Philip Hartigan, Jennifer Schuberth, and Tewz One.
