Each year, hundreds of painters, photographers, sculptors, actors, performance artists, dancers, poets, and filmmakers participate in this unique opportunity to exhibit and sell their work to visitors from the United States and abroad. Our festival brings together neighborhood galleries, schools and non-profit arts organizations under one umbrella with private art studios and local businesses which, for the weekend, transform themselves into public galleries. In addition to the visual art exhibitions, neighborhood theaters and bars host performances both impromptu and scheduled throughout the weekend.

Festival Focus
The focus of the Fall Arts Festival is on new and emerging artists. We hope to provide the Chicago community with access to the work of these often under-exhibited artists. This festival is curated by ATC staff and our visual arts guest curator, Tricia Van Eck of the Museum of Contemporary Art.
Opening Night Party
September 7 from 8pm to midnightAround the Coyote Gallery
1935 ½ W. North Ave.
$20 admission includes drinks and food.
As always, the festival weekend opens with a kick-ass opening party at the Around the Coyote Gallery to benefit Around the Coyote's art education programming. The party will be catered by Las Palmas, Wicker Park's favorite Mexican restaurant, and will include a video program by film/video curator Kim Alpert of highlights from Around the Coyote's short-film screenings over the last decade, and the debut of the site-specific installation by Around the Coyote's Fall Artist-in-Residence, Artledge/iCabin . The opening party music will be provided by DJ Sid Delicious, guaranteed to get your groove on. There will be a silent auction of artwork on exhibition during the party and throughout the weekend at the Around the Coyote Gallery, featuring the “best of the fest” artists selected by our guest curator, Tricia Van Eck of the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art.

2006 Fall Festival List of Accepted Visual Artists, Galleries, Co-ops and Alternative Spaces with Their Locations in the Festival (pdf)
Installation Times and Other Info for Accepted Artists updated (pdf)
- Art Galleries, Alternative Spaces and Artist Co-ops
This year Around the Coyote is providing exhibition opportunities for the many alternative art spaces in Chicago. Emerging galleries, cooperatives, and alternative spaces can either open their neighborhood space or, regardless of location, purchase booth space in our festival. Our featured galleries this year include Green Lantern, Art of Designs, DVA Gallery, Chicago Photo Forum, Newspace, Lazerhappy and Teti Gallery.
- Studio Artists
Around the Coyote started out as a collection of open studios and empty storefronts. This year we are encouraging every studio between Armitage and Division and Western and Ashland to open their doors and take part in the festivities. We have over 50 participating neighborhood studios. For a comprehensive map pick up a festival catalog at the Around the Coyote Gallery (1935-1/2 W. North Ave) or any of our ticket venues.
- Artists without a studio space in the neighborhood
We have selected the visual artists for exhibition in our main visual art venues. This fall we have over 245 artists participating including painters, photographers, installation artists, sculptors, and printmakers.
- Curator's Choice Exhibition
This year's guest curator is Tricia Van Eck, curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. She has selected artworks for inclusion in the "Curator's Choice", a small group of work deemed "best of the fest" on view at the Around the Coyote Gallery (1935-1/2 W. North Ave.) throughout the festival weekend and the month of September. The artists chosen for this honor will be the guests-of honor at the kick-ass opening party on September 7 from 8-12pm.

Directed by Colin Palombi
This short about an amazing boy is set to a beautiful score and masterfully made with found footage. Colin Polumbi, a curator for Chicago’s Ice Capades, is quickly becoming a favorite both near and far for his witty shorts and found footage enthusiasm.
Body
Directed by Kim Alpert
Kim Alpert is a Chicago native and has been film co-curator for Around the Coyote for the past several years. She has been creating independent shorts about social and political themes effective her life. This is the first screening of her latest work, Body. Body is a look at the effects of female objectification, the effects, and an introspective journey into her own experience.
Pep Talk
Directed by Scott Smith
When his fiancé dumps him for a lesbian lover, Roger Gilroy turns to self-affirmation and discovers his inner whale.
Checkmate
Directed by Kenneth Yoder
Kenneth Yoder, co-curator of Around the Coyote, is a local independent film worker. If it was shot in Chicago, there’s a good chance Kenneth was there. This short is about a woman throws away tattered old panties inciting an arguement between her and her boyfriend..
The Index of Absence Vol. 1 (Film Curator’s Choice Selection)
Directed by Mary Scherer
Run Time: 40 mins
The Index of Absence is a participant-based video project that is an anthology of loss. A participant submits footage of his or herself, speaking to the camera, as if it were someone in their life that they have lost in any sense of the word. The demographic of participants are diverse in the ranges of racial/ethnic background, sexuality, and occupation. Mary then selects the one-minute moment from each participant and arranges them in the five stages of grief, beginning with denial and ending in acceptance.
Director's Statement: I am interested in the connection that an audience member has with the screen, and in this context, to each individual's experience. Audiences usually identify with the protagonist, yet ironically, love and loss are the times we feel most alone. I am endeavoring to lessen the distance and separation that the audience has with the screen. The video has a cathartic effect on the viewer. “
Film at Double Door
Lindsay Bosch has curated three film installations to play during our music events at Double Door (1572 N. Milwaukee). Complete Film & Video ScheduleScreen 1: Slomo Video - (2006) Created by Ryan Junell
SLOMO VIDEO is a unique touring program 100 one minute slow motion videos by 85 filmmakers and video artists from around the world. The creative compilation includes works by artists LoVid, Matmos, Wiley Wiggins, Yoshi Sodeoka, Keith Fullerton Whitman, and Eddie Codel. “This unique compilation of cinematic slowness will pull the audience through a molasses-tinged warp of catastrophic visual and audio beauty.”
Screen 2: Machinima Film Festival - (2002) Compiled by the Academy of Machinima Arts and Sciences
The emerging genre of machinima is a convergence of filmmaking, animation, and gaming in which artists use the graphics engines of video games to create cinematic works in real time. Showcasing the winners and nominees from the first annual Machinima Awards held in 2002, the compilation is a showcase for some the very best of what the machinima community has produced so far. Shorts include “Hardly Wokin'” by Frank Dellario, “Rendevous” by Peter Rasmussen “Rick Jones 2” by Byan Henderson.
Screen 3: Decasia - (2002) By Bill Morrison
Decasia is an experimental film composed entirely of decaying, nitrate-based archival film footage from before 1950 which seems to melt, burn, drip and deteriorate on the screen. The film creates an artful collage of visually damaged clips, including everything from fragments of silent melodramas to ethnographic studies, travelogues, newsreel footage and wildlife documentaries.
Special Thanks to www.projector123.com for providing the projectors for this project.

He spends all of his time mowing his parent's lawn until he meets a friend with an escape plan drawn in crayon. The Princess Bride (PG, 98 min.) is a timeless story of ever-lasting love, rhyming giants, magicians, and six-fingered men.
